Growth in the number of medical marijuana patients in the state has created the need for more dispensaries, the state Department of Consumer Protection said.
DCP is accepting applications through Sept. 18 for as many as three additional dispensaries across the state, but the department said it is particularly targeting Fairfield and New Haven counties, which have the highest numbers of registered patients. The two counties had nearly 2,100 registered patients between them as of June 5.
There are six dispensaries operating today, including in Hartford, Bristol, South Windsor, Branford, Bridgeport and Montville.
The dispensaries sell marijuana products, which are grown by four state-approved production facilities.
