CT supplies 450+ manufacturing workers in 300 days, officials say

Connecticut has surpassed its “300 Days, 300 Jobs” advanced manufacturing challenge by at least 150 jobs — progress state officials planned to detail at today’s Connecticut Business Summit.

The accomplishment will be announced by Gov. Dannel P. Malloy and officials at Connecticut State Colleges and Universities at 3 p.m. at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford.

Key manufacturers, including Electric Boat, will join in the presentation.

The governor’s challenge to enroll and graduate 300 workers in 300 days at CSCU was announced last May, said Michael Kozlowski, chief marketing officer for CSCU.

Charged with producing as many skilled workers as possible, CSCU has in fact produced “north of 450” skilled graduates ready to work, Kozlowski said.

There are about 4,600 manufacturers in the state ranging from EB and Pratt & Whitney to smaller ones in the supply chain, and over the next two decades the larger manufacturers estimate they’ll need 25,000 new skilled workers, Kozlowski said. New contracts and a wave of worker retirements are creating the jobs gap.
