CT sues imprisoned trash-hauling magnate

Connecticut authorities are suing James Galante, alleging the imprisoned trash-hauling magnate swindled consumers out of millions of dollars.

Attorney General Richard Blumenthal and Consumer Protection Commissioner Jerry Farrell say Galante violated fair trade and antitrust laws by inflating contracts and rigging bids.

They filed suit today in Hartford Superior Court. They want Galante to pay restitution to contract holders, including Yale University.

Galante was among dozens arrested in a 2006 probe of the region’s trash hauling industry. He pleaded guilty to racketeering and conspiracy, and is serving an 87-month federal prison sentence.

A message was left today for his attorney. (AP)
