Nearly 50 university students with Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island ties are spending their summer as White House interns, The Associated Press reports.
Nine of the new interns are Yale University students, and two others from Connecticut attend George Washington University in Washington, D.C., and Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland.
The new class of interns also includes three students from Brown University in Providence, R.I., and one from the University of Rhode Island.
Thirty-three others have Massachusetts ties, either as natives or students at one of its universities.
About 200 unpaid, full-time internships are granted based on leadership potential and a desire for public service careers.
The interns are assigned to departments throughout the White House, including in the offices of Vice President Joe Biden and first lady Michelle Obama.
