The Connecticut State Colleges & Universities’ academic and student affairs committee is expected to vote Feb. 3 to discontinue two math programs and add three new ones in business, theatre arts and popular music.
The full CSCU Board of Regents would then vote to sign off on the changes at its Feb. 16 meeting.
CSCU oversees the state’s four public universities, community colleges and online Charter Oak State College.
The undergraduate math programs are currently offered at Southern Connecticut State University and would be discontinued by the spring of 2027. CSCU said the changes are scheduled to be made due to a restructuring of SCSU’s math programs.
The three new pending programs include:
- A bachelor’s degree in business at Central Connecticut State University in New Britain. The new program would be offered beginning in the fall of 2023.
- A bachelor’s degree in theatre arts at Western Connecticut State University in Danbury. The new program would be offered beginning in the fall of 2023 and incorporate professional training in acting, design/tech and stage management.
- A bachelor’s degree in popular music at Western Connecticut State University. The new program would be offered beginning in the fall of 2023 and provide skills needed to work in various facets of the music industry, including in performance venues, religious organizations, recording studios and music retail locations.
