The State Bond Commission on Tuesday authorized the use of $38 million to pay for two energy efficiency projects at the Connecticut Valley Hospital and several Department of Motor Vehicles offices.
The projects, performed under the state’s Lead By Example energy efficiency program for government buildings, are expected to yield $3.3 million in annual savings.
The Connecticut Valley Hospital campus in Middletown will reduce its energy operating costs 60 percen by replacing windows, steam piping, lighting, insulation, and combined heat and power generation. The $33 million project will yield $3 million in annual savings.
The DMV will reduce its energy operating costs 45 percent by putting in new windows and weatherstripping as well as other conservation measures at its Wethersfield headquarters, along with the branch locations in Enfield, Cheshire, Hamden, Winsted, Norwalk, Old Saybrook, Norwich, Willimantic, New Britain, Waterbury, Danbury, Bridgeport, and Putnam. The $5.2 million retrofit will yield $350,000 in annual savings.
