Darien’s Genesee & Wyoming Inc., parent of Hartford-based Connecticut Southern Railroad, said it has acquired Freightliner Group Ltd. for $733 million.
Headquartered in London, Freightliner provides the rail and freight logistics to the U.K., Europe and Australia.
The deal includes the assumption of $29 million in debt and capitalized leases.
G&W said it has entered into a five-year senior secured credit facility that includes a $2.18 billion loan and $625 million revolving credit facility.
G&W, which owns or leases 120 railroads around the world, expects $29 million in first-quarter expenses related to the deal.
