CT small biz center gets director

The Connecticut Small Business Development Center (SBDC) has hired a state director from within its ranks, it announced.

The center, which is based at the University of Connecticut and provides free advising and low-cost training for small businesses, has hired Emily Carter, who works in the state’s office of economic and regional development (of which the SBDC is a part).

Carter has served as the director of entrepreneurship and business development in that office. She will now take the reins on the SBDC’s efforts to create jobs and establish business partnerships.

“Emily understands that leveraging a diverse mix of resources; government, academia and community leaders, results in stronger programs necessary to create a go-to resource for companies working to expand business, markets or to startup”, Mary Holz-Clause, vice president of the office of economic development at UConn, said in a statement.
