CT slot revenue down 10% in April

Slot revenue from Connecticut’s two resort casinos dropped more than 10 percent in April, as fewer money was gambled at the machines, according to monthly filings with the Department of Consumer Protection.

Mohegan Sun in Uncasville raised $46.7 million in slots revenue in April vs. $52.6 million in April 2013, a decrease of 11.3 percent.

Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket raised $39.8 million in slots revenue in April vs. $44.4 million in April 2013, a decrease of 10.5 percent.

While only a portion of the resorts’ overall revenue that includes table games, restaurants, entertainment venues, and hotels, the slot report – the only financial report both are required to disclose publicly – is an indicator of how busy the casinos were and how much patrons gambled. Mohegan had $571.2 million gambled at its slot machines in April, a decrease of 9 percent, while Foxwoods had  $507.8 million gambled at its slot machines, a decrease of 4 percent.

The report comes just after Foxwoods sent a memo to its employees saying it would close one of its six gaming floors during the week to save money on labor and operations.

As part of their agreement to operate in the state, the two casinos must contribute 25 percent of their slot revenues and bonus play to the state government. For April, Mohegan contributed $11.8 million while Foxwoods contributed $10.8 million.
