CT shed 4,100 more jobs in June

Connecticut lost jobs for the second consecutive month, losing another 4,100 — many from the state’s payroll — in June on top of the adjusted loss of 5,500 in May, state labor authorities say.

Connecticut unemployment was unchanged in June at 9.1 percent, the state Labor Department said Thursday. National joblessness is 9.2 percent.

“Connecticut’s job losses for the second consecutive month are disheartening, with those losses wiping out

employment gains made earlier in the year,”  said Labor Statistics Supervisor Salvatore DiPillo. “Most of these losses were in the government sector, though the state has a net gain of private sector jobs this year.”

Private sector jobs are being created at a much slower pace than last year, DiPillo said. Private employers have added 1,800 workers since the beginning of 2011, compared to a gain of 14,100 jobs for the same period last year.
