New housing construction jumped about 45 percent in September compared to a year ago, new data shows.
There were 352 single- and multi-family permits issued for new housing construction last month in 104 municipalities, according to the state Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD), citing U.S. Census Bureau data.
That’s more than the 242 permits granted in those same communities in Sept. 2018, and an increase from 313 granted in Aug. 2019, Census data showed.
Among communities sampled, Fairfield (74), Norwalk (52), Bloomfield (17) and Danbury (15) were tops in the number of homebuilding permits granted last month.
For the year, 3,145 permits have been issued vs. 2,854 granted the same period a year ago.
