A senior living community in Torrington has completed construction of 39 new apartments and launched what it calls the region’s first transitional memory care “neighborhood.”
Keystone Place at Newbury Brook announced Thursday that the expansion includes 12 independent living apartments, 12 assisted living units, eight transitional memory care apartments and seven traditional memory care apartments.
The transitional memory care program targets residents in early stages of dementia or memory impairment, offering what the facility describes as a middle ground between assisted living and full memory care services.
The program features an unsecured environment during daytime hours to promote independence, while providing secured settings at night for additional safety and support.
According to the facility, the transitional program focuses on cognitive stimulation, social interaction, physical wellness and emotional support through personalized daily activities.
Dr. Joan Roche, clinical director for The Roche Associates Inc., developed the transitional memory care concept, which provides cognitive and social support for assisted living residents developing memory issues who don’t yet require full memory care services.
The new apartments are part of Keystone Place at Newbury Brook, which has operated in Torrington for more than 25 years, offering independent living, assisted living and memory care services.
Keystone Place at Newbury Brook is owned by Keystone Senior Management Services Inc., which operates senior living facilities in Colorado, Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois, Ohio, Florida and Massachusetts, in addition to one other in Connecticut, located in Danbury.
