CT Senate passes manufacturing tax credit

The state Senate unanimously embraced a higher tax credit for manufacturers who train the next generation of workers.

The bill increases to $6 an hour from $4 the corporation business tax credit for hiring apprentices in the manufacturing trades. The legislation raises the annual cap on the credit to $7,500 from $4,800.

The measure still must pass the House of Representatives and be signed by Gov. Dannel Malloy. The proposal was not scheduled for the House calendar on Thursday.

The proposal, if adopted, would take effect July 1, 2015 and decrease state revenue from taxes an manufacturers by $1.3 million starting in 2016.
