The Connecticut Department of Energy & Environmental Protection is soliciting the final proposals for $15 million in microgrid project funding.
The microgrid project came out of the 2011 storm response bill, where applicants could propose to set up their own mini power grid with local generation to keep electricity flowing to key facilities such as grocery stores and police stations during widespread power outages.
DEEP designated 27 of the 36 original applicants as eligible for this $15 million round of funding, including Wesleyan University, the University of Hartford, the city of Hartford, and the town of Hamden.
Applications are due June 4.
In addition to $15 million in pilot funding, the proposed state budget currently being considered by the Connecticut General Assembly includes another $30 million for microgrids.
