CT seeking energy, environmental interns

Connecticut legislative and executive branches formed an internship program with the University of Connecticut to foster lawyers’ knowledge of state energy and environmental issues.

The Connecticut Department of Energy & Environmental Protection and the General Assembly’s Environmental Committee partnered with the newly formed UConn School of Law’s Center for Energy and Environmental Law to place law students in internship programs with DEEP and the legislative committee.

Connecticut formed DEEP in July as the first state in the nation to fuse energy and environmental issues into one statewide department, as part of an effort to reconcile the two often-conflicting issues while growing the clean energy industry in the state. UConn’s Center for Energy and Environmental Law was created to help future lawyers and policymaker bring technological innovations into their careers.

The internship program, which begins January, is designed to provide students will hands-on experience while DEEP and the Environmental Committee move forward in Connecticut’s new efforts toward energy and the environment.
