The Connecticut Science Center has welcomed its 5 millionth visitor.
Woodbury resident Caroline South, along with her four sons Cashen, Connor, Joseph and Tanner, was the 5 millionth person across the threshold of the downtown Hartford institution.
The family received a complimentary membership as part of the celebrations.
The Science Center opened its doors for the first time in 2009 and has since welcomed visitors from all 50 states and many from overseas.
“Over the past 16 years, these millions of learners of all ages have engaged in hands-on experiences that spark imagination, deepen understanding, and inspire. They are the science and technology-aware talent of our future,” said Matt Fleury, the president and CEO.
The Science Center recently unveiled a new 10-year strategic plan that includes gallery upgrades and new exhibitions.
Next summer, the center will take its KidSpace — a special section designated for younger children — beyond its walls with an outdoor science playscape.
It’s also in the process of creating a new gallery called Forces in Motion: SPEED, a
showcase honoring Connecticut’s legacy of invention and manufacturing, and an exhibit
exploring the themes of energy and sustainability.
The Science Center is also planning a new online platform that will include interactive features and a personalized family dashboard that will include visitor rewards.
