Connecticut Science Center in downtown Hartford will host a series of on-site events Monday, when it will formally receive its LEED Gold designation for sustainable energy use and environmental design.
Green walking tours of the facility are available. In addition, Eastern Connecticut State University’s Institute for Sustainable Energy and Clean Air-Cool Planet will hold a day-long student challenge at the science center.
Officials from UTC Power in South Windsor also will be on hand to discuss the technology in its 200-kilowatt fuel cell installed to supply most of the science center’s electricity.
A 9:30 a.m. panel discussion, “Going Green in the 21st Century,” moderated by John Amatruda of Viridian Energy, will lead up to the noon luncheon presentation of the center’s LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) plaque.
The state-of-the-art, $162 million science center opened last June.
