CT Sandy assistance tops $7.6 million

The Federal Emergency Management Agency has awarded more than $7.6 million in assistance to Connecticut individuals recovering from Superstorm Sandy, as of the end of day Monday.

In addition, the U.S. Small Business Administration has issued $489,500 in approved loans. The agency has received 6,883 disaster loan applications for homes and businesses.

Of the money, $7.3 million will go toward housing assistance and $353,000 will go toward other disaster-related needs, such as medical expenses.

The state had 9,164 people apply for federal disaster assistance. More than 2,000 people have visited FEMA Disaster Recovery Centers, and 4,213 inspections of damaged properties have been conducted.
