CT residents graduate from utility program

Eleven Connecticut residents graduated from a program at Northeast Utilities Technical Training Center in Newington with skills and licenses necessary to begin work in the utility industry.

The following graduates now have their commercial driver license and other training necessary for the utility industry:

  • Orlando Acevedo of Hartford
  • Jamal Byrd of East Hartford
  • Rebecca Castro of Hartford
  • Eliezer Cruz of East Hartford
  • Helen Duguay of Waterbury
  • Wanda Gardner of Hartford
  • Jason Jefferson of Waterbury
  • Raymond Martinez of Naugatuck
  • Lenell Nelson of Waterbury
  • Ellis Roberts of Waterbury
  • Jawwaad Stovall of Waterbury

The training was sponsored by Northeast Utilities and the Connecticut Business & Industry Association’s Education Foundation. The program was funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

“This program has the potential to make a big difference in the lives of these graduates, as well as a positive impact on Connecticut’s energy-sector employers,” says Judith K. Resnick, CBIA’s director of workforce development, in a statement. “The energy sector faces a shortage of skilled workers, something that this and other workforce training programs seek to address.”
