Connecticut reopened Thursday two park beaches but five others tainted with bacteria remain closed, authorities say.
The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) announced that Mashamoquet Brook, Pomfret and the east end of Rocky Neck, East Lyme have re-opened.
Five others are closed due to elevated levels of bacteria in the waters: Wharton Brook, Wallingford; Chatfield Hollow, Killingworth; Gay City, Hebron; Hopeville Pond, Griswold; and Black Rock, Waterford.
New water samples for testing were taken today at the five beaches that remain closed and the results of these tests will be available tomorrow. If these tests show the bacteria levels have receded, the beaches will be reopened.
DEEP conducts weekly water quality tests at 23 state park beaches from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
