CT regulators slash CL&P rate increase

State regulators have slashed nearly in half requests for rate and revenue increases by Connecticut Light & Power, The Associated Press reports.

In a preliminary decision Monday, the Department of Public Utility Control cut a request by the utility for increased revenue of $177.6 million for this year and 2011 to about $99 million for the two years.

The utility’s request for a 27.5 percent rate increase for distribution also will be reduced to 13.9 percent.

CL&P, which serves 1.2 million customers, said it requested the increase to build, maintain and operate its electric distribution system.

A spokesman for the Department of Public Utility Control says a typical residential bill will fall to about $130 a month in January 2011 from about $141 a month last year.

A final decision is due June 30.
