CT regulators approve $218M transmission project

The Connecticut Siting Council has approved the Interstate Reliability Project, the first of three state regulatory approvals needed for electric utility Connecticut Light & Power to install a transmission line from Lebanon to Rhode Island.

The 37-mile, 345-kilovolt transmission line will improve electricity reliability in the eastern part of the state and extend into Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Regional electric utility National Grid is handling the non-Connecticut sections of the project.

The Interstate Reliability Project still needs regulatory approval from Rhode Island and Massachusetts, which are expected by the end of this year.

The line is expected to be in service by late 2015.
