CT reduces natural gas costs

The Connecticut Office of Policy and Management reduced the price of the state’s natural gas supplies by 38 percent by renegotiating its fixed-price contracts.

The contracts, covering 453 accounts for all state agencies, run from July 1 to Sept. 30. The total cost savings will be $660,000.

“At a time when state agencies are being asked to do more with less, this is a significant help,” said Gian-Carl Casa, undersecretary for legislative affairs, in a press release. “As always, we will continue to monitor conditions and trends in the energy market in an effort to secure the best available rates for the state.”

The new contract price is $6.68 per dekatherm, down from the current price of $10.73.
