CT ranks 5th overall in women’s employment & wages

Connecticut earned a B grade and ranked fifth overall in the nation for women’s employment and earnings, according to a report released Thursday by the Institute for Women’s Policy Research.

Connecticut was fifth among all states for women’s median annual earnings at $46,000 and came in sixth in percent of employed women in managerial or professional occupations at 43.9 percent.

The state ranked 14th in percent of women in the labor force at 62 percent.

Connecticut did come in near the bottom – ranked 38th – in the wage gap, with women earning 76.7 cents per male dollar, wider than the national average of 78 cents. At its current rate, Connecticut will not close the wage gap until 2061.
