CT puts $150K more into online travel guide

The state of Connecticut has sunk another $150,000 into a Westport telecommunications company, Interactive Mobile @dvertising LLC, making urban leisure and travel guides available via an app for mobile phones.

Connecticut Innovations Inc., the state’s quasi-public technology investment and innovation arm, said Monday its latest investment follows its 2010 stake of $280,000 in the company known as iM@ for short. CI also has a seat on board.

The vendor so far has targeted three major tourist destinations as New York City, Las Vegas and Orlando, Fla., and 10 more are scheduled to debut later this year for its mobile guides, said CEO Kerry J. Cannon Jr.

Using its app, travelers can get specifics on a city’s hotels, conference info, restaurants, night clubs, museums, shops, among other “geo-intelligent” data, Cannon said.

IM@ also offers advertisers, such as car-rental agencies, hotels and restaurants, the opportunity to market on its platform.

Indeed, the company recently announced a distribution pact with two major car-rental agencies, Dollar Rent A Car and Thrifty Car Rental. Terms were not disclosed.
