The state has contributed a $300,000 loan and $100,000 grant for the development of Hartford’s Parkville Market, a 20,000-square-foot food and community hall that pledges to create about 150 jobs, officials said.
The state Department of Economic and Community Development’s Small Business Express Program will provide the funds for the project at 1400 Park St. opening in April 2019.
Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, who joined local and state officials at a groundbreaking Thursday, said the market is ideally located near a CTfastrak station, adding the development will add to the Capital City’s recent economic progress.
Housed in the former home of the Bishop Ladder Co., the market will showcase 22 local, diverse and authentic restaurant vendors and a shopping mall at 60 to 80 kiosks ranging from 200 to 600 square feet.
The project’s developer, Carlos Mouta, also one of Parkille’s biggest landlords, said the market is “an example of the ongoing cultural and commercial renaissance taking place in the Parkville community.”
Connecticut Department of Transportation Commissioner James Redeker said the CTfastrak has produced over $200 million in transit-oriented development along the nine-mile trek since its founding in 2015.
