CT publisher may see boost from Nobel choice

A Connecticut publisher may benefit from this week’s award of the Nobel Prize in literature to a French author.

The academy this week honored Jean-Marie Gustave Le Clezio, calling him an “author of new departures, poetic adventure and sensual ecstasy.”

Now, the Willimantic-based Curbstone Press may see a boost in business. That’s because it released the English version Le Clerzio’s novel “Wandering Star” in 2004.

Initially, it only sold about 1,500 copies. But the publishing company’s director says they now will print more in anticipation of renewed interest.

No American has won the Nobel in literature since 1993.

However, Le Clezio put in a plug this week for American novelist Philip Roth — who, as a longtime Weston resident, also has a Connecticut connection. (AP)
