Connecticut on Tuesday made $3 million in Northeast Utilities settlement money available for businesses and residents to upgrade their energy equipment to more efficient models while recovering from Superstorm Sandy.
The $3 million in incentives can be used to replace furnances, boilers, hot water heaters, and refrigerators between Oct. 29 and Dec. 31 in storm-damaged businesses and homes.
The money largely comes out of $15 million the state received as part of a settlement agreement for Connecticut regulators to approve the merger of Hartford-based Northeast Utilities and Boston-based NStar.
In addition to the incentives, the state is offering special low-cost financing for energy-efficient equipment with optional on-utility-bill repayment. This financing can be used for equipment, insulation, and air sealing while reconstructing businesses and homes from Sandy damage.
The deadline to apply for incentives is Dec. 31. Call the Connecticut Energy Information Line at 877-947-3873 for details.
