CT protesters target B of A in Hartford

A group of faith, labor, and community advocates plan to demonstrate outside Bank of America’s Connecticut headquarters in downtown Hartford at noon Monday, calling on the bank to do more to help rebuild the state’s ailing economy.

Protest organizers say Bank of America, the state’s largest lender with more than 20 percent of the market, is hurting Connecticut’s economic recovery by failing to pay its fair share of corporate taxes, doing little to stem the state’s foreclosures, and not lending enough to small businesses.

Up to 100 protestors are expected to be at the rally at 777 Main St., organizers say. Among the groups represented will be members of the Connecticut Citizens Action Group and Service Employees International Union.

Bank of America, headquartered in Charlotte, N.C., declined to comment on the protest. But bank officials said the bank extended $92 billion in credit to small and medium-sized businesses nationwide in 2010, exceeding a $86 billion goal.
