CT police, towns to receive $2.5M for Newtown shooting costs

The Connecticut State Police, local police and numerous area municipalities will receive $2.5 million from the U.S. Justice Department to compensate them for overtime and other costs incurred in the aftermath of the December school shooting in Newtown, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder announced.

“Providing support to the law enforcement agencies that responded to the horrific scene that awaited them at Sandy Hook Elementary School is one small action we can take to bring healing to a community that’s been devastated,” Holder said.

The funding comes from a grant program run by the Bureau of Justice Assistance. The state police will receive $663,444, Newtown will receive $602,293, Monroe will receive $882,812 and 34 other Connecticut towns that send personnel and assistance will share $296,836.
