CT online voter registration goes live

Connecticut’s online voter registration website is up and running, Secretary of State Denise Merrill announced.

Authorized by 2012 legislation that also allowed for Election Day registration, the website makes Connecticut the 15th state — and the first in New England — to allow online registration.

To register online, one must be an American citizen and hold a valid Connecticut driver’s license or other identification issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles, officials said.

The registrar of voters will check each submission against other state record to ensure the given information is accurate.

“This new convenience is being provided to Connecticut voters while simultaneously maintaining our strong security precautions to protect the integrity of our voter registration system,” Merrill said in a statement.
