CT officials to kick off 2-day emergency drill

State and local officials will be working with utility companies during a two-day, statewide emergency drill aimed at preparing for a major ice storm, The Associated Press reports.

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy will kick off the exercises Thursday morning at the state’s emergency operation center in Hartford and participate in a series of calls with state and local government leaders and utility company officials.

The governor will then head to a simulated building collapse in Torrington, where state and local emergency responders will be honing their skills.

Malloy says the goal is to improve communications between government officials and utilities and test the state’s mutual aid system.

Crews with Connecticut Light & Power Co. will be working with emergency officials to practice communication and coordination during a simulated response to downed utility wires.
