CT officials crackdown on illegal truckers

Connecticut law enforcement officials wrote more than 1,200 violations against truckers shipping goods across the state as part of Gov. M. Jodi Rell’s crackdown on trucking.

The first two weeks of the ongoing crackdown yielded 1,217 violations, Rell’s office announced Tuesday. The violations included speeding, reckless driving, overweight trucks, oversized vehicles, improper driver’s licenses, inaccurate logbooks, poor registrations, defective lights, defective brakes and defective tires.

The crackdown started Aug. 2 after a series of major crashes involving trucks caused deaths and lengthy traffic tie-ups. The effort includes more than 500 state troopers.

“The vast majority of truck drivers are safe and courteous professionals who take their job seriously and drive in a sensible way,” the Governor said. “Those who do not will pay for it – or find that they are better off avoiding Connecticut altogether.”
