A nursing home in Trumbull plans to lay off nearly 200 workers and close its facility in August.
St. Joseph’s Center CT, controlled by Hbr Trumbull LLC, sent a letter to the state Department of Labor’s rapid response unit stating that it will terminate 179 employees as a result of the closure, which is set for Aug. 9. The 274-bed facility is located at 6448 Main St., in Trumbull.
Terminations began on June 10, the facility said.
“This action will be permanent,” Merisa Kolenovik, facility administrator, wrote in the letter. “All employees will be compensated through August 9, 2025, as long as they remain employed until their designated termination date.”
Employees getting terminated include 76 certified nurses’ aides and 53 licensed practical nurses, the letter shows.
The facility, which first reported the planned closure in late May, was evacuated multiple times in the past few months because it needed major renovations and structural improvements, but did not get waivers to carry out needed repairs from the state and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services in time, WTNH reported.
