CT new home construction falls in Oct.

Connecticut new home construction nosedived again last month, as new housing permits issued during the month fell sharply by nearly 20 percent, state figures show.

Connecticut municipalities issued 178 new housing permits in October, compared to 221 in the year-ago period.

With the new housing units authorized in October, the year-to-date total reached 2,350 units, putting Connecticut sill well behind last year’s new home construction pace by 19 percent, when 2,906 permits were issued, according to data released Thursday by the state Department of Economic and Community Development.

Permits are issued for single-family houses, condominiums and apartment units.

The data from DECD includes housing permits issued from 128 of the 169 municipalities in Connecticut.
