In an embarrassing public about-face, state health regulators admit they erred in declaring they would no longer license embalmers, funeral homes and others in a budget-saving move.
The Department of Public Health (DPH) late Friday clarified that it will continue to regulate funeral homes, funeral directors, and embalmers.
“Earlier this week, DPH announced that as part of its budget reduction plan it would no longer license funeral homes, funeral directors and embalmers. This was inaccurate,” DPH said in a statement.
While DPH is streamlining processes and reallocating resources in response to budget cuts, it has no plans to stop licensing and inspecting funeral homes, funeral directors, or embalmers.Â
