Windsor-based Rectangle Corp., operator of the Connecticut franchise of 1-800-Mattress, said today it is unaffected by the bankruptcy filings of its New York franchisor and that it is operating as “business as usual.”
Rectangle and other Dial-A-Mattress franchises in New England and the U.S. made the announcement a day after creditors involuntarily forced into bankruptcy franchisor Dial-A-Mattress Operating Co. in New York.
“We are a completely separate company with a healthy balance sheet, a warehouse full of inventory …,” said Rectangle President Stephen Perry. “Our business is unaffected by the action against the franchisor in New York. We are not involved in any way and it is business as usual for us and for our customers, who will see no impact whatsoever from this news.”
Perry said his company has separate contracts with bedding makers Sealy, Serta, Simmons, KingKoil/Comfort Solutions and TempurPedic, is current with all payments, and operates its own fleet of trucks for delivery, its own warehouse in Windsor and retail showrooms in Stamford and Fairfield. The company will continue to fulfill orders placed through its Web site, www.mattress.com.
Perry, a veteran of the mattress industry, purchased the Connecticut franchise last year and says he has been steadily growing marketshare in the region.
