The CT Lottery has temporarily suspended the sales and cashing of its “5 Card Cash” game to install new software amid concerns that some retailers were cheating the game. The software change is necessary in order to further enhance the security features of the game.
The game started Oct. 18. It involves players playing a randomly chosen computer hand of cards for either an instant prize or daily jackpot winner.
The CT Lottery discovered that the terminal was being misused by some retailers in the 5 Card Cash game’s instant component. The Department of Consumer Protection said it in a statement from the lottery believes some retailers may have intentionally manipulated the reporting mechanism on the terminal for their own personal benefit. Consumer Protection is investigating the issue.
CT Lottery President and CEO Anne Noble explained that “integrity is paramount, and this temporary suspension, an unusual step, allows us to bring the game back in a very short period of time.”
Players with winning 5 Card Cash tickets, including for the Nov. 13 drawing, will be able to cash their tickets as soon as sales resume, as early as next week, the CT Lottery said. No other lottery games are affected.
