CT life sciences accelerator seeks applicants

If you’re a Connecticut scientist, research student, doctor or engineer looking to launch a new venture in the life sciences, a state-backed bioscience accelerator program wants to hear from you.

The Accelerator for Biosciences in Connecticut (ABCT) has begun taking applications for its 2022 cohort. The deadline to apply is Oct. 25.

The six-month, competitive program aims to provide entrepreneurship education and help seed-stage ventures secure funding and build industry contacts.

New York-based Design Technologies launched ABCT in 2017 with funding from CTNext, a state-backed entrepreneurial support program, as a way to boost the state’s bioscience industry.

The program, modeled after the successful ELabNYC incubator in New York, includes a mini-MBA curriculum, expert coaching, networking, mentorship and pitch preparation and support, according to its website.

The program is open to people with a background or education in science or technology who live or work in Connecticut, and co-applicants are encouraged. Participants must already have a technology or innovation and be ready to start building their venture.

ABCT typically selects a dozen ventures for each cohort. Eligible areas include any discipline that impacts human health, including biomedical engineering, health information management, medical care, medical devices, medical diagnostics, pharmaceuticals or personalized medicine.
