CT lawmakers to take up Sun. liquor sales bill

State lawmakers are scheduled to hear testimony Tuesday on the latest effort to allow alcohol sales in Connecticut on Sundays, The Associated Press reports.

The General Assembly’s General Law Committee has scheduled a public hearing on legislation allowing liquor stores and supermarkets with the proper permits to sell alcohol on Sundays.

This year’s bill has a good chance of getting signed into law. Democratic Gov. Dannel P. Malloy has said he will sign legislation allowing Sunday liquor sales.

A legislative report last year estimated the state could reap an additional $7.5 million to $8 million in tax revenue. But the Connecticut Package Store Association has opposed the bill over the years, saying it would cost each store at least $14,000 a year and would drive hundreds out of business.
