Norwalk state Rep. Chris Perone is promoting a bill that would speed support of fast-growing businesses to stimulate jobs and investment in Connecticut.
Perone’s bill would establish a committee to work with the state Office of Policy and Management and the state’s economic development agency to create a real-time database that tracks growing industries and economic trends.
The Democrat says doing so would permit the state to rapidly adjust its programs and strategies to support them.
“Would you get on an airplane if you didn’t know which way it was heading?” Perone said in a statement Wednesday. “Connecticut’s existing capacity to gather comprehensive data on its investments in new and established companies is incomplete and needs to be more rigorous.”
The bill also helps, Perone said, small businesses get access to capital by creating a loan pool, and provides opportunities for training and rehiring of the recently unemployed.
