The attorneys and 15 professional staff members from Tarlow Breed will join Shipman's new office at 101 Huntington Ave., on the fifth floor of Boston’s Prudential Center.
That’s the same former office location of Tarlow Breed, which previously employed 21 attorneys, with core practice areas in corporate law and business transactions, taxation and estate planning, litigation and dispute resolution, real estate and family law.
Tarlow Breed will continue to operate with three litigation partners and two business professionals.
Shipman is the largest firm in Connecticut with 141 attorneys based in the state, according to the Hartford Business Journal's 2025 Book of Lists.
The expansion brings Shipman to more than 160 attorneys and is expected to improve its Am Law NLJ 500 ranking by an estimated 60 places, the firm said.

The new Boston office will be co-managed by Melissa Sydney and Jeff Hart, both formerly with Tarlow Breed. Hart was a founding member of that firm when it was established in 1991.
Shipman’s 10,000-square-foot Boston office space is designed to foster collaboration and client service, according to the firm.
Shipman has locations in Greenwich, Lakeville, New Haven, Old Lyme, Stamford and New York City. The firm serves public and private companies, educational institutions, governmental entities, nonprofits and individuals.
