The state of Connecticut is home to seven of the top 400 richest Americans, according to Forbes magazine.
Ray Dalio, the Greenwich founder of the investment firm Bridgewater Associates, is the richest Connecticut resident, with a final worth of $15.3 billion, according to Forbes. Dalio is the 29th richest American.
The other top six richest Connecticut residents is Stamford hedge fund manager Steve Cohen ($12 billion, 37th richest American); Greenwich investor Paul Tudor Jones ($4.7 billion, 114th); Branford heiress Karen Pritzker ($4.3 billion, 128th); Subway co-founder Peter Buck of Danbury ($3.5 billion, 171st); Greenwich hedge fund manager Stephen Mandel ($2.4 billion, 279th); and Greenwich investor and brewer C. Dean Metropoulos ($2.4 billion, 279th).
The richest American overall is Bill Gates, cofounder of Microsoft, with $76 billion. Omaha investor Warren Buffett was next with $62 billion. The person who gained the most wealth in the last year was Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, who earned $16.5 billion more this year for a total wealth of $47 billion, ranking him as the fourth richest American. Facebook cofounder Mark Zuckerberg gained $6.3 billion this year for a total worth of $40.3 billion, making him the seventh richest American.
The finance and investment industry had the most of the top 400 richest Americans with 86 billionaires. The tech industry was next with 53 followed by the food and beverage industry with 36.
