A lakefront restaurant in Brookfield and four nearby cottages have been listed for $6.75 million, according to the broker.
Siblings Scott and Krista B. Parente, of Brookfield, inherited the 11,887-square-foot, one-story restaurant building at 292 Candlewood Lake Road in 2023, said Joe Dimyan, a broker with Tower Realty Corp. Their late parents, Alfred G. and Barbara Ann Parente, purchased the property in 1976 and established Down the Hatch, which bills itself as Candlewood Lake’s only lakefront restaurant.
The family has owned the nearby cottages, at 5 Kellogg St., since 1999, Dimyan said.
The siblings are selling the properties and the Down the Hatch business as they look to retire after working there their entire adult lives, he said. The restaurant has operated seasonally from May through mid-September.
Tower Realty brokers Mick and Tommy Consalvo are co-listing the sale of both the real estate and the business.
The restaurant announced on its Facebook page in late July that the family planned to sell the business “after 49 wonderful years” following the close of the 2025 season.
“We look forward to seeing what the future holds for our little piece of paradise,” the post said.
The restaurant building was constructed in 1920 and sits on a 0.38-acre parcel. The cottages were built in 1938 and 1952 on a combined 2.11 acres.
The properties have a total appraised value of $1.79 million and an assessed value of $1.25 million, according to property records.
