CT jury awards $58M in injured baby case

Attorneys for a Norwalk couple say a jury has awarded them $58 million after their baby was born with severe injuries, The Associated Press reports.

Lawyers for Dominic and Cathy D’Attilo of Norwalk say the jury in Waterbury reached the verdict Wednesday against Dr. Richard Viscarello and Maternal-Fetal Care. The lawyers, James Horowitz and Kathleen Nastri, say it is the largest medical malpractice judgment in state history.

The family claimed the doctor delayed performing a cesarean section. Their lawsuit said the brain-damaged baby, now 8, has cerebral palsy and can’t talk or walk.

A telephone message left with the doctor’s attorney was not immediately returned.
