Several hundred state workers are starting to get pink slips.
The Malloy Administration said Wednesday that it has sent out 328 layoff notices to state workers across five different agencies, in what is the start of potentially thousands of job cuts in Connecticut state government. Â Â Â
The Department of Correction felt the brunt of the pain, as 222 pink slips were handed out to employees in that agency.
The Departments of Construction Services, Emergency Services and Public Protection, Mental Health and Addiction Service and Office of Policy and Management, also got hit will layoff notices.
The layoffs are a result of unionized state workers recently rejecting a $1.6 billion concession package needed to plug Connecticut’s $3.6 billion budget deficit over the next two years.
Malloy has said that as many as 6,500 state workers could lose their jobs in the coming months.
