The Connecticut Insurance Department’s Consumer Affairs Unit recouped $1.2 million for policyholders from July 1 to Sept. 30 while levying $1.1 million in fine against the state insurance carriers.
The fines will be deposited into the state’s general fund, the result of a variety of fines and settlements ranging from untimely claim payments to improper licensing.
Since Jan. 1, the department has recovered $6.3 million for policyholders and taxpayers.
The majority of recovered funds from July 1 to Sept. 30 came from accident and health claims, followed by life, annuities, homeowners, and farmers.
