CT in line for $1.3M brownfields cleanup money

Several Connecticut cities will receive grants ranging from $200,000 to $350,000 from the federal government to clean up contaminated sites, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced.

The $1.3 million headed for Connecticut is part of an overall brownfields grant package of $3.5 million, to be shared among the New England states.

Bridgeport and New Haven will each receive $350,000 and Winchester will receive $200,000/

A cluster of 15 New Haven-area communities represented by an economic development entity called REX Development will also receive $350,000.

“Today we’ve made additional funding available to communities which have a proven track record in successfully cleaning up and redeveloping brownfield sites,” Curt Spalding, regional administrator for EPA’s New England office, said in a statement. “The additional funding announced today will help sustain that incredible progress.”
