CT in-home care providers join union

More than 1,600 Connecticut in-home child-care providers have voted to unionize ahead of future talks with the state over improving services, authorities say.

The American Arbitration Association returns Tuesday in a secret ballot election were 1,603 to 88 for representation by CSEA/SEIU Local 2001, the union said.

Connecticut’s in-home child care workers who participate in the Department of Social Services’ Care4Kids program have been working to unite together since 2005.

Care providers in 15 other states have official standing, the union said.
