CT in first-flight fight

State lawmakers in Ohio and North Carolina are expected to hold news conferences today to dispute Connecticut’s claim that it was the first state to launch a powered plane, according to the Associated Press.

Gov. Dannel Malloy signed a law last year saying Gustave Whitehead took flight in 1901, two years before the Wright brothers, the AP said.

Both North Carolina and Ohio boast of their flight claims on their license plates.
